You be you. I’ll be me.
By: Lindsey M. Wilson

You be you. I’ll be me. is an inspirational book that tells a story of inclusion and individualism through a gender creative child. It carries the message that we can all be loved by simply being ourselves.

The main character takes you on a journey with their friends of self expression and mutual respect for one another. Together, they own their uniqueness, overflow with confidence, and love one another for what makes each of them unique. With flowing rhythm, melodic rhymes, and an undeniably positive tone, You be you. I'll be me., will empower children of any gender to be confident in being themselves.

This book is unlike many of the books in its genre. You be you. I’ll be me. carries a pure and powerful message with confidence and positivity at the forefront. Antagonistic messages of ‘you can’t be this way’ are not found in the text. The key theme sent to young readers is that we can all be confident in who we are. It sends encouragement that it’s ok to break gender stereotypes to live authentically. It affirms that we can be ourselves while also respecting and celebrating others for our differences.

At the end of the book, the author encourages the reader to think about gender stereotypes. Questions are posed to help facilitate thoughtful discussion with children around gender differences while promoting inclusivity and equality for all. Parents, teachers, therapists, and caregivers will agree that You be you. I'll be me. is a powerful tool in aiding thoughtful discussion around the importance of being ourselves.

More to come in 2024.
